iPhone App of the Week: TweetDeck

There are dozens of Twitter apps available for the iPhone, and while all the attention has been on Tweetie lately due to its acquisition by Twitter itself, the much more detailed TweetDeck deserves some attention.

The app, which is also available on the iPad, emulates the desktop version of the software extremely well. Users can separate their tweets into columns depending on category, and can edit the way these are arranged.

Several types of settings are available, such as how notifications should appear, how often tweets should be updated, what appears in each column, (you can even organise tweets mentioning certain words to appear), and users can also update Facebook at the same time.

Users switch to new columns by swiping back and forth on the screen, and integrate their settings with the desktop version so you don’t need to spend too much time hashing out the details.

Some users have been turned off by the amount of clutter on the screen, but for the amount of features packed into this app you can forgive the developers for packing it on. Best of all, the app is free.
