Internet access a right, survey finds

Over 75% of people across the world believe access to the internet is a right, a BBC poll has revealed.

The survey, which gathered responses from over 27,000 people in 26 countries including Mexico, Brazil, Turkey, Finland and the United States, found 79% of people felt they strongly or somewhat agreed with the description of the internet as a “fundamental right of all people”.

About 87% of internet users questioned felt access should be a right, with more than 70% of non-connected users agreeing with the statement.

About 96% of respondents in South Korea, a country which enjoys unusually fast internet access, said access was a fundamental right.
