Windows 7 on a roll

Microsoft’s release of Windows 7 was long-awaited by tech analysts and bloggers, who were seeking a better alternative to the disappointing Vista operating system. But new figures show the new OS may be doing better than hoped.

Net Applications’ latest Market Share report shows Windows 7 was responsible for more than 5% of web traffic in December, up from 4% in November and 2.15% in October.

The new OS is also taking more market share from Vista than Windows XP, presumably due to the ease in upgrading Vista to Windows 7.

However, Windows XP is still accounting for more than 66% of all web traffic, with individuals and organisations still slow to upgrade.
