Computer expert warns about Windows 7 upgrade

A computer expert and head of a training college in Melbourne has said administrators and individuals should be wary of upgrading to new operating systems before vigorous testing.

Melissa Foote, principal of Total Business Service and Training, told The Age that her business has suffered high bills after installing the Apple Snow Leopard OS on company machines before testing.

“Given the issues that we have faced, once bitten twice shy,” she said. “I will never invest in a new operating system until it is at least up to its third upgrade or patch after release.”

Foote says the businesses encountered high bills as the OS automatically synced iDisk data using the Apple MobileMe service, which costs money.

The warning comes after tech analysts have warned businesses about upgrading to new systems without properly budgeting or buying the necessary equipment.
