Google Voice to expand overseas

Google may expand its Google Voice service to overseas users, according to a report from Business Week.

The report, which cites an “improperly formatted” PDF letter sent to the FCC as part of an investigation, says the service has 1.4 million users with 570,000 using it seven days a week.

The letter stated the company has several “international service providers for inputs to Google Voice”, indicating the service may be set to reach overseas users in the future.

It is unknown when this would occur, as the letter gives no specific dates or timelines for a roll-out of an international Google Voice service.

Google Voice allows users to replace all phone numbers with a single number, which can then be used for all gadgets including a home phone and mobile phone. It has become increasingly popular, but the service attracted controversy when an official iPhone App was banned from sale in the App Store.
