Palm has announced the upcoming release of what will be its cheapest, lightest handset so far, the 99.5 gram Pixi.
The Pixi will have a 2.63-inch, 320 by 400 pixel screen, and unlike predecessor Pre (release in June), will feature an exposed keyboard. It will also carry 8GB of on boardstorage and a 2 megapixel, fixed focus camera with LED flash.
Like the Pre, it will be iTunes compatible and use a GPS for location-based services.
In addition, the Pixi’s release will coincide with Palm’s introduction of a native Facebook app and Yahoo! and LinkedIn integration for its Synergy platform.
No launch date has been set, but the Palm says the Pixi will be available in time for the holiday season. It is expected to sell for around US$100.
Palm will also offer five artist-designed back covers in a “Palm Pixi Artist Series”.
