Microsoft’s new Bing search engine attracted 16.7% of all search users last week, up from 15.8% from the previous week, according to market researcher ComScore.
Both figures are an increase from Bing’s launch week of 25 May, when its user share stood at just 13.7%.
“It appears that Microsoft Bing has continued to generate interest from the market for the second consecutive week,” Mike Hurt, ComScore’s senior vice-president told Information Week. “These early data reflect a continued positive market reaction to Bing in the initial stages of its launch.”
The company is hoping to catch up to Google’s 65% share of the US search market, while it currently stands at just 8%. Yahoo remains in third place with 20% of the market.
Microsoft has marketed the site as more of a ‘decision engine’ than a search engine, and has advertised features such as an aggregator of reviews and shopping information for consumers looking for a particular product.
