Palm Pre praised in early reviews

Early reviews for the Palm Pre device have started to appear on the internet, and the initial consensus is that it’s a winner.

The device comes from the company that dominated the handheld organiser market in the early 2000s, and is attempting to attack the iPhone’s sales by offering similar features. It even ‘syncs’ with Apple’s iTunes software.

“Palm Pre is an amazing product that will undoubtedly resonate with many, but it’s a shame it comes so late after a raft of iPhone-killer contenders, a number of which have already come and gone with little iPhone sales impact,” ITWire.com.au wrote.

“Move over, iPhone. You’ve had two years on top of the smart phone world. Now there’s a touch-screen phone with better software: the Palm Pre,” Peter Svensson from The Age added.

“Whether you get a Pre or not, its brilliant software will leave its mark on the phones you buy in the future, just like the iPhone did after its debut.”

Gizmodo wrote that while the Palm Pre doesn’t beat its competitors on the hardware front, its user interface will change the pace of smartphone development.

“It’s time for something different. The Pre may have hardware that’s worse than the [Google phones], but the whole package – the software and the hardware – isn’t bad. It’s good. It’s different. That’s something we can get behind. I can’t wait to see what Palm gets dealt in their next hand.”
