Australian developers encouraged to organise Google I/O extended events

Google is encouraging developers to host “extended events” during its major annual developers’ conference later this month.

Google I/O, which runs from June 25 to 26, is the major annual developer event for the global online services giant.

The tech giant is encouraging developers who can’t attend the event to organise their own events and watch a live stream of the event.

On the official Google I/O page, it has posted a map demonstrating where events are taking place around the world.

Last year, there were six Google I/O events in Australia, including at Perth’s Curtin University, Melbourne’s York Butter Factory co-working space and Brisbane’s Bumbles Cafe.

Meanwhile, in Sydney, there were events at the University of Western Sydney, the University of NSW and co-working space Fishburners.

While no Australian events have been organised so far, the tech giant says 365 events have been registered globally so far.

For developers interested in organising an event, the company has produced an event organising checklist, along with a page where organisers can register their event.
