Apple confirms October 16 launch event, expresses surprise at the collapse of a key supplier

Apple has confirmed rumours it is preparing to host another launch event, and has expressed surprise at the collapse of a key supplier for its forthcoming Apple Watch devices.

Earlier this week, speculation emerged Apple is gearing up for a second launch event, smaller than its iPhone 6 and Apple Watch unveiling, during which it is believed the tech giant will unveil new iMacs, Mac OS X Yosemite and updates to its iPad product line.

The speculation has been confirmed by Forbes, which reports it has received an invitation from the tech giant with the ironic tagline “it’s been way too long”.

Meanwhile, Reuters reports Apple has released its first statement about the sudden collapse of key supplier GT Advanced Technologies this week.

“We are focused on preserving jobs in Arizona following GT’s surprising decision and we will continue to work with state and local officials as we consider our next steps,” Apple spokesman Chris Gaither said.

GT Advanced Technologies manufacturers the sapphire glass used for the displays on the Apple Watch, as well as on the iPhone 6 camera.
