The 2014 International CES, one of the world’s most high-profile consumer electronics trade shows, is set to run this week in Las Vegas, Nevada, from January 7 to 10.
The annual show, previously known as the Consumer Electronics Show, is organised by US-based industry trade group the Consumer Electronics Association, attracting around 140,000 attendees each year.
Driverless cars, 3D printing and Ultra HD TV, including screens with a resolution of over 4000 pixels, are set to be key technologies on display this year.
“From wearable tech to the latest in 3D printing, the Internet of Things, driverless cars and sensor technologies, the 2014 CES will feature the world’s largest hands-on showcase of emerging innovation,” International CES senior vice president Karen Chupka says.
As in previous years, exhibitors are turning to celebrities to help promote their wares, with musicians Pharrell Williams and Mick Fleetwood, rapper 50 Cent, NFL quarterback Tim Tebow and world chess champion Magnus Carlsen among the high-profile guests attending.
One of the key exhibitors at the show is Samsung, which is set to demonstrate its Smart Home system, which allows users to control a number of the company’s appliances through a single app.
“Samsung Smart Home’s unique functionality enables users to control and manage their home devices through a single application by connecting personal and home devices—from refrigerators and washing machines to Smart TVs,” the tech giant says in a statement.
“At the touch of a dedicated Smart Home app icon on their device, the service enables users to control one or multiple devices simultaneously no matter where they are.”
