Australia has reached a landmark moment in the battle to close the gender pay gap by passing the Workplace Gender Equality Amendment (Closing the Gender Pay Gap) Bill in Senate.
A slight improvement in the national gender pay gap to 13.3% has been reported, bringing the current status quo to Australian women pocketing, on average, 87 cents for their work to every dollar earned by a man.
The new data, released on Thursday afternoon by the Workplace Gender Equality Agency, shows that on average, there is a difference of $255 per week in the full-time earnings of men and women in Australia.
