Short-term holiday rentals are not the only reason businesses in regional Australia are struggling to find staff, Heartful founder Jen Clark says, as locals fear platforms like Airbnb are pricing workers out of rental accommodation.

You visit a village that looks lovely at first glance. But almost every house is a holiday house, and there’s not enough year-round demand to sustain anything other than the convenience store at the local servo.

Airbnb is not against the user-pay levy but was pushing for a rate of three to five percent.

An attack on Airbnb might win some headlines, but it won’t do much to mitigate the real causes of Victoria’s rental crisis.
