How to switch off GPS in Android 4.4 KitKat

By default, Android 4.4 KitKat devices use a combination of GPS, Wi-Fi and mobile networks to determine your location.

However, if you want to extend your battery life, you can switch GPS off. Here’s how to do it.

From the setting menu, tap on location and then mode.

There should be three options: High Accuracy, Battery saving and Device only.

Tap the middle option – Battery saving – and your device will just rely on your current mobile network location and Wi-Fi to determine your location – without using GPS.

This is slightly less accurate, but will improve your device’s battery life.
