Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak seeks to educate with Woz U institute

Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak is looking to equip students with the technology skills they need to succeed with the formation of his own university, the Woz U institute.

Launching first with online programs, Woz U, which is based in Arizona, plans to add ground campuses in more than 30 cities in the US and around the world, according to a statement.

“Our goal is to educate and train people in employable digital skills without putting them into years of debt,” Wozniak said.

“People often are afraid to choose a technology-based career because they think they can’t do it. I know they can, and I want to show them how.”

As advised via its website, Woz U specialises “in technology and career-based programs designed to get people into the workforce quickly and affordably”.

Academies are planned to be introduced in 2018, providing for one-to-one instruction.

And in 2019, the Woz U Accelerator will be launched to “identify and develop the most elite talent”, drawing on the online and academy platforms, placing “them into the fastest-growing, top technology companies around the world”.

The Woz U website also states the institute will help businesses recruit and train employees according to needs and outcomes.
