The new features in Internet Explorer 9

Tech TricksMicrosoft has launched its latest browser, Internet Explorer 9, and it’s packed with new features. If you’re using an older version, now is the time to upgrade – but beware that IE9 is only available on Windows Vista and 7, so if you’re using XP then it’s time to upgrade.

Here are a few of the new features that will help out your browsing experience on IE9:

  • Completely new interface – no toolbars here. IE9 takes some cues from Firefox and Chrome and removes the excess baggage at the top of the screen, giving you more room to view web pages.
  • Advanced shortcuts. IE9 includes the ability to create some unusual shortcuts for sites such as Facebook and Twitter. Drag the Facebook URL to your program tray, and then you’ll be able to access certain parts of the site straight away by highlighting it.
  • A separate download screen for monitoring all your files.
  • If you want to make sure your browser isn’t using too much power, then check the Add-On performance advisor. This will look at each of your add-ons and determine which are taking up too much power – you can close them manually to boost your speed.
