Freelancer.com, the ASX-listed outsourcing website founded by Australian tech entrepreneur Matt Barrie, has announced the launch of a new online marketplace for buying and selling websites and domain names.
The marketplace, to be known as Freemarket, was originally part of an online internet marketing message board known as Warrior Forum, which was founded in 1997 and acquired by Freelancer.com.au in April of this year.
By separating the marketplace from Warrior Forum, Freelancer.com says in a statement it hopes to “leverage the consolidated wide-reaching user base”.
As with eBay, users hoping to sell through Freemarket will have the option to put their domain name or website up for auction, or offer it through a “buy-it-now” option for a fixed price.
At the time of the acquisition, Warrior Forum had 732,000 members, with founder Allen Says announcing in a statement it would remain independent.
“Warrior Forum will remain independent to Freelancer.com and will have a separate dedicated team to better support you. I know they are excited to be joining our great community and will be working alongside us to take Warrior Forum to the next level. You’ll receive an introduction email from Freelancer.com shortly,” Says said.
