Klick Communications makes foray into US tech start-up scene

Sydney start-up Klick Communications is embarking upon an audacious foray into the US market, setting up shop in Los Angeles with the aim of luring tech start-up clients.

The PR agency, which was listed in the StartupSmart Awards top 50 last year, has tasked PR executive Charlotte Crivelli to run the LA office.

Founder Kim McKay says that she hopes to launch more offices in the US, with a potential rollout in Hawaii in a bid to attract travel-based clients.

The international expansion follows a strong initial performance by Klick, which was launched in 2008.

It offers traditional and digital PR, social media, content creation, brand strategy and marketing services to clients, including thong brand Havaianas.

“We wanted to get a presence in the US and get the business growing out there,” McKay tells StartupSmart.

“If we could replicate our success, I thought why not in the world’s largest market? We already have three foundation clients in the B2B space.”

“There’s a big opportunity in LA around the tech and start-up community. Not many agencies there are honing in on that space, going by our research, so we think we can get runs on the board there.”

“Another sweet spot for us is travel. We are looking for travel destinations, with Honolulu in Hawaii being a possibility.”

McKay adds that other Australian PR agencies haven’t decided to expand overseas because many of them “throw it in the too hard basket.”
