Google launches a new guide encouraging kids to pick Careers with Code

Google Australia has published a new computer science careers guide, titled Careers with Code, which encourages young people to take up a career as coders.

The guide includes a list of courses that combine computer science with other disciplines, such as design to education, science, health, arts, media, laws and business.

In a post on the Google Australia blog, engineering community and outreach manager Sally-Ann Williams says the guide provides examples of how computer science skills can lead to a career that makes an impact.

“While Australia has seen a 41% drop in the number of IT graduates since 2001, demand from employers for graduates with computer science skills is at an unprecedented high,” Williams says.

“The Careers with Code guide profiles successful entrepreneurs and provides examples of how computer science skills can make a significant impact – ranging from saving the lives of premature babies to creating interactive maps to helping people stay safe during natural disasters.”

It is available as a download for Android smartphones through the Google Play store or as an online magazine.
