WeTeachMe tops the class

LessonsEarlier this year StartupSmart profiled WeTeachMe, an online resource that links people who want to learn a skill with someone who can teach them.

The Melbourne-based start-up is centered around a website, which advertises classes for skills including martial arts, baking and music production.

WeTeachMe aims to be the eBay of lessons, with tutors posting their class subjects and prices. Students pay online and rate the tutor afterwards.

According to co-founder Demi Markogiannaki, workers want a convenient way to shop for personalised classes.

“We do tailored, customised learning to the needs of what anyone wants. You can always Google how to tile a bathroom but nothing is a substitute for experience,” she says.

About 100 private classes and 10 workshops are currently listed in Melbourne and Sydney on weteachme.com, with plans to go nationwide by Christmas.

Does the emergence of eBay-inspired services suggest there are business opportunities for other start-ups? It’s certainly worth checking out.
