An online and mobile marketplace, which allows people to “live a smarter and more fulfilling life by once again relying on their neighbours” is gaining traction in the United States.
TaskRabbit connects users with people in their neighbourhood who can help them complete the tasks on their to-do list.
Users simply post a task, including the maximum amount they are willing to pay for it, and the background-checked TaskRabbit who makes the lowest bid is assigned to run the task.
TaskRabbits are paid online, so no cash is needed, with only a small percentage going towards a service fee, while the majority is paid to the TaskRabbit.
“At TaskRabbit, we harness the power of the community to get things done – forming a virtual neighborhood,” TaskRabbit says on its website.
“We call it ‘service networking’ – leveraging the latest social, mobile and location-based technologies to bring neighbors together to get things done.”
A similar service has been launched here in the form of Airtasker but perhaps there’s an opportunity to develop something a bit more specialised.
