A comparison tool for international venture capital firms has been launched this week by a search engine called FindTheBest.
US-based business development manager Micah Berman told StartupSmart the tool was designed to provide start-ups seeking capital with information and a way of comparing venture capital groups.
The free platform allows the user to search for and compare venture capital firms based on company name, location, industry focus, fund size, and more.
“This tool provides a new perspective to start-ups who are seeking venture capital funding,” Berman says. “We wanted to create a resource that allows people to compare products and services in order to make highly informed decisions.”
Berman says the objective approach to data will help start-ups target the right funders for their business.
“It is very important to target the correct firms. Don’t fire off your business plan to every firm under the sun. In a comparatively smaller market like Australia, word can get around quickly,” he says.
“Find a firm that targets companies like yours, keeping in mind development stage, revenue, industry, the amount of money you are looking for, and more. Looking at a firm’s portfolio can give you a better idea of their expertise.”
FindTheBest is an American company, and has recently begun expanding overseas.
“The tool continues to expand. It was previously focused on the United States, but as our resources continue to grow, we are expanding the tool for overseas coverage as well,” Berman says.
While the site only lists two Australian venture capital firms currently, companies seeking international funding will find a range of options and Berman says they will be updating the list as they grow.
