“Chair alarm” idea goes off – literally

start-up-idea-stretchA new device developed by the University of Queensland aims to preserve the health and wellbeing of office workers by prompting them to leave their desks.

The device, dubbed the “sitting pad”, emits a loud beep when its occupant needs to get up and move around.

According to the researchers, employees spend more than two-thirds of their work hours sitting at a desk. But this can be seriously bad for your health, the researchers warn.

“Sitting for large portions of the day is associated with poor health outcomes and a reduced life expectancy,” researcher Gemma Ryde says.

Workplace OHS is a huge area of business now, and it’s only going to get bigger. Why not jump on the bandwagon and come up with a creation like the sitting pad?
