There’s a new, creamy dessert on the market that not only contains fewer calories than an apple but, according to manufacturers, could actually help dieters lose weight.
Bio-Synergy says its 60-calorie mousse contains chromium, a natural ingredient that reduces the desire to binge on sugar.
UK supermarket giant Tesco says chromium has been the subject of numerous studies and clinical trials, and has been approved as a food supplement.
According to a Tesco spokesperson, chromium has been proven to help regulate blood sugar levels, which in turn helps reduce craving for sweet foods.
Nutritionist Fiona Hunter says the product must contain sufficient chromium to have any effect on a dieter’s appetite – something Bio-Synergy says it has.
“In order to be efficacious, a product needs to have at least 15% of the recommended daily allowance of chromium,” a company spokesperson says.
“We’ve created the product to contain 30% to ensure that customers are getting the optimum amount.”
Does chromium represent a new frontier as far as the weight loss industry is concerned?
