Artwork a new currency for Stockholm’s Clarion Hotel

start-up-idea-clarionA hotel in Stockholm is accepting artwork as payment for hotel rooms, introducing an entirely new currency for cash-strapped artists.

Room for Art, at Stockholm’s Clarion Hotel, is the brainchild of Clarion’s general manager, whose aim is to create an atmosphere that appreciates art, and welcomes and attracts artists.

In order to qualify for the deal, artists simply need to submit any signed piece of artwork that fits on an A4 sheet of paper, along with a form describing the artist and artwork.

The hotel takes ownership of the artwork and, in exchange, provides one night’s stay for up to two people in a double room. The offer is capped at two times per person, per year.

By encouraging unconventional forms of payment, businesses have the opportunity to add a human dimension to their brand in the eyes of consumers.

Why not take inspiration from the Clarion Hotel and introduce a similar concept in Australia?
