Treasure yourself like Miranda Kerr

Every day I read a book on my subway ride into Manhattan, and I just recently finished reading Treasure Yourself by Miranda Kerr.

Although I had given it to my sister as a Christmas present when it first came out, I thought it was a book for young girls – not for blokes.

I was completely surprised. It turned out to be absolutely relevant to my current situation, and it really resonated with me.

The way she was raised, what she learned from her teachers and how she lives her life appears to be quite similar to my own. I felt like it was reading something I would have written myself, and I hope to meet her some day.

Out of the many things I got out of reading the book, I wanted to focus on one aspect – looking after yourself.

Being an entrepreneur running a start-up with what I call a “start-up budget”, I find myself skipping meals, eating at odd hours of the day and eating food that isn’t good for me, just because it’s cheap.

Entrepreneur coach and advertising industry icon Siimon Reynolds says how surprised he is when he hears about people who are dedicated to success but don’t look after their body – the one thing that carries us through this life.

As hard as it is to work 100 hours a week on our start-ups, we still need to remember to treasure ourselves and eat food with the right nutrients that will enable us to live a long and healthy life.

After all, there is no point being successful if you can’t enjoy it.

Key takeaways:

  • Read the book Treasure Yourself by Miranda Kerr
  • If you don’t have a Kindle, it’s worth investing in one
  • Eat the right foods that your body needs
  • Don’t skip meals
  • Don’t make assumptions
