Taking out this year’s Community Award at The Smart50 Awards is the highly deserving SHE-com, a place where powerhouse women can come together to build and grow their e-commerce brands.
Founder Lisa Jones experienced her fair share of hardships over the years, and she’s determined to use those learnings for good in order to create a healthier world full of empowered women entrepreneurs.
“I was in a domestic violence marriage to the co-founder of my previous business, and leaving both my marriage and my brand was devastating,” Jones reflected.
“But I soon realised my experience was valuable to other women growing their businesses. As I started mentoring, the idea to support women with strategies to grow their product brands gained momentum of its own, and they began knocking on my door to seek help.”
SHE-com now has a team of 22 supporting its 5500-strong community of women brand owners, focusing on three core values: education, inspiration and celebration. Jones knows that building a brand can be a lonely road, which is why she’s bringing the community together through various events and coaching programs.
SHE-com is on track to double its revenue and is working on partnerships with software and service brands to create content opportunities for the community in 2024. Its revenue and profit-based model aims to serve more than 50,000 women by 2026 globally.
“At SHE-com, we may have monetised the mentoring and guidance we provide, but at its heart we are here to champion women and uplift them,” Jones said.
SHE-com’s mission embodies this spirit through:
- providing free education to its community, including masterclasses
- hiring coaches to ensure no woman is left without nurturing
- offering mental health support for women struggling with the demands of motherhood and entrepreneurship
- creating a safe space for women to share questions, vulnerabilities and support
- donating products to charities, and supporting survivors of sexual abuse and trauma
- raising funds for domestic violence shelters.
“SHE-com is a great example of ‘community spirit’,” said Adriarna Nunn, head of people and culture at Cobild and guest judge on the Community Award. “This collective of fierce, passionate women recognise the transformative power of collaboration and its profound impact on businesses in the world of e-commerce.”
SHE-com placed 42nd on the Smart50 list 2023.
