How The Little Potion Co started
In 2019, inspired by a Harry Potter-obsessed son, sisters Alicia Gordon and Jacinta Evans embarked on a magical journey: to find a potion kit for Christmas. But unable to find any nature-based, non-toxic options in Australia, they decided to take matters into their own hands and crafted their first prototype – and subsequently spawned The Little Potion Co.
With the homemade potion kit a roaring success at home, the sisters quickly realised that their product could be so much more than just a play activity. By including affirmation cards, positive stories and magical words, the kits have evolved into mindful activities that nurture children’s self-love, bravery and positive mindsets.
Growth
In just four years, The Little Potion Co has transitioned from humble kitchen creations to more than 200 stockists in Australia, including The Iconic. As a women-led manufacturing business employing six staff, its expansion led from Evans’ backyard to a larger warehouse.
While being pioneers has its advantages, educating the market and maintaining the product’s integrity and values have been challenges to sustained growth. But harnessing video, QR codes and genuine influencer feedback has helped the business foster authentic connections within its ‘magic makers’ community.
Where to next
The Little Potion Co will continue on its enchanted trajectory with an upcoming collaboration with a renowned licensing brand for a limited-edition potion kit, and found success recently with Australia’s growing love for Halloween. With growing demand for subscription and educator packs, it also plans on introducing a subscription model that will add an extra 20% in revenue yearly.
Collaborating with educators, the sisters plan to create bulk ingredient packs that seamlessly integrate their potions into educational frameworks. With so much in store, this magical business holds plenty of excitement for kids and adults alike.
