How Association of Professional Builders started

Smart50 regulars, Sky Kolade and Russ Stephens’ Association of Professional Builders is a business coaching company for residential home builders across Australia, New Zealand, the US and Canada.

With Stephens’ expertise in building, and Kolade’s knowledge of marketing, the company offers clients everything they need to grow sustainably and truly understand their financials to be profitable in an industry where costs quickly add up.

Growth

The past 12 months have been a nightmare for construction, as material costs skyrocket, quality staff become harder to find and more businesses are collapsing than ever. Association of Professional Builders’ membership has grown by 30% in the past 12 months despite that, and it has also added eight new employees.

All the while, it has been building up a library of case studies for all of its clients to learn from, and has grown revenue from $5.1 million in 2021-22 to $7.1 million in the last financial year.

Where to next

The company is expanding deeper into the US, holding free events in cities where it is confident it has at least 300 marketing qualified leads.

Testing its methodology extensively already in Australia, it has the confidence to pick a narrow focus on the right places to target its advertising budgets.

Association of Professional Builders won the Smart and Lasting Award at The Smart50 Awards 2023.
