The communal newspaper keeps visiting the toilet. Help!

Dear Aunty B,

We get a couple of newspapers delivered to the office every morning for staff to read during the day if they need to.

I I’ve noticed that one of my junior male employees has been taking the newspaper into the toilet with him. I find this disgusting, particularly as I often read one of the papers as I eat my lunch at my desk. I don’t want to seem like I am spying on his toilet habits – how do I get him to stop?

Dear Disgusted

Oh goodie! If there is one thing Aunty B likes, it’s a toilet problem. I am literally rubbing my thoroughly-washed hands together with glee.

Look, if it is bothering you then just ask your employee to stop. And there’s no need to pop your head over the cubicle door or anything so extreme.

If you see him heading in the direction of the toilets with the paper tucked under his arm, just very quietly ask him if he is planning on taking the newspaper to the toilet and say you would prefer if he didn’t as it is a communal paper. Simple. Drop him an email if you really want to cut down on the embarrassment factor.

Now you can start worrying about whether leaving food scraps all over the paper while eating your lunch is a problem.

Be smart,

Your Aunty B
