Power Play: If you’re always in control, you’re going too slowly

In theory, control always sounds good. The one big problem with it is that it sometimes crowds out room for improvisation and whimsy – which only happens when you’re running really fast.

Control requires a measured, considered speed. It often requires a slow gear. Too much control can sometimes stymie the great thinking that comes when you have to fly by the seat of your pants.

Power Players know when they are suffering from way too much control or over-control. They ease off the gears and let some randomness into their world. They know that if they have every second planned out, they choke off any room for inspiration or that happy accident that leads to some place great.

Power Players are geniuses at losing some of the control but not enough to be chaotic. Look and learn.
