Power Play: If you did it, undo it

If it’s your fault, you’re the one who needs to fix it.

Power Players never outsource the mess. They take the heat for whatever disaster they’ve created and they take responsibility for cleaning it up. And if they do the clean up well, people tend to forget they made the mess in the first place.

We all make big, fat mistakes. What separates the Power Players from the pretenders is that they don’t feign shock and awe at the mistake, as though it is someone else’s: they tend to it, and then they move on.

This is what makes good people great and it’s all too rare when it happens.

Most of us are stuck in the mistake part and we spend so much time fixating on the disaster we’ve created that we completely lose sight of our ability to clean it up.

Almost everything we break can be sorted. Few of the mistakes we make are irrevocable. Remember this the next time you land in it.
