This line comes from Woody Allen. It’s how Woody directs his movies. And great Power Players know it by heart.
Power Players recruit the best people and then they get out of their way. Power Players recruit class and talent and then they shut up.
Why recruit the best if you’re not going to let them do their thing? Power Players are smart enough (and ego-less enough) to allow the smart ones to step up to the challenge and do their thing.
Give talent an unobstructed view. Give them the space and the support to show their talents and win the day. Don’t second-guess, don’t read over their shoulder and don’t stand behind them waiting to catch the ball you think they’re about to drop.
Get out of their way and shut up.
