Power Play: Diversity is power

I love this Power Play. Diversity is one of those words in mission statements and job applications but rarely used in the same sentence as power.

Most of us tend to make friends with people like us, work with people like us and generally gravitate toward people like us.

Power Players know that the broader their friendship and life circles are: the more potent they become. Why? Because it’s only when we spend time and have conversations with people who are nothing like us that we become so much more powerful in the process.

By being open to new ideas and fresh perspectives Power Players grow ever more powerful because any ignorance or conservatism is swept away. They embrace the new and the different and as a consequence they grow strong.

Power Players look for opportunities to embrace diversity. They sidestep the predictable and the usual. They learn from the unexpected and unpredictable.
