Mayan prophecies aside, let’s celebrate our achievements in 2012

There is a sense of celebration in the air with the working year almost done for most.

One of the things I love about being back in Australia is the tendency for business to shut down before Christmas, opening at various times in January – what a great idea! I embrace this fully and will be taking time off (starting today!) and returning early February.

As we draw to a close for this year many of us reflect on our successes and what we would like to improve on. There has been a lot of speculation about what will happen after today (December 21), the end of the Mayan calendar. Some people believe the world will end, others believe we will continue. However, our world as we know it will end, some believe it’s all a hoax designed to panic people.

Whatever your take on the end of 2012, as a team you have worked together, laughed together and at times argued together. As busy as the next few days are, I encourage you to take the time and have a conversation about the past 12 months, what were the highs for you all personally and as a team? The single one thing that will make a difference to you as a team of people working together is to stay in conversation with each other.

Below are some questions to use as a guide:

  • What has served you as a team?
  • What has hindered/sabotaged this team?
  • What are the habits, beliefs, behaviours and actions of this team? What is working here and what needs to be adjusted?

Wishing you all a wonderful time over the festive season and a fun successful 2013!
