That’s fair – no fines for employers

No employers have been fined for failing to hand out a fact sheet on the fairness test, and employers have also been spared any investigations from the Workplace Ombudsman. Although industry groups suspected that thousands of small businesses would have failed to hand out the fairness sheet, none have been issued with the $100 fine, says The Australian Financial Review.

While Deputy Prime Minister Julia Gillard has confirmed that the Government’s first industrial relations legislation will ensure employers will not have to hand out the fairness test fact sheet, Labor is expected to introduce another fair work information statement.

But whether employers will be required to hand that out to staff, and whether penalties will be applied to those who don’t, has not yet been specified.
