Discount supermarket chain Aldi will be closing its Australian online liquor outlet in three weeks’ time.
Aldi has written to customers informing them it is closing the online store in order to focus on its expansion into South Australia and Western Australia, according to Business Insider.
The first four South Australian Aldi stores are now open, with a further 15 stores planned for the state and 22 sites confirmed for Western Australia.
Aldi’s in-store liquor range will not be affected by the closure of the online store.
The supermarket chain is still promising to honour its 100% satisfaction guarantee after the online store closes, with disgruntled customers able to apply for in-store credit.
Aldi has been making plays to outmanoeuvre Coles and Woolworths in the competitive liquor market, with cheeky advertising last month for its cheap wine.
Alcohol first began appearing in local Aldi stores in 2011, a decade after the German retailer landed in Australia.
Today, Aldi operates more than 400 stores across New South Wales, the ACT, Queensland and Victoria.
The online store will continue trading as usual until it closes on March 24 at 4pm.
