So you think the 10-inch touchscreen display on your new tablet is impressive?
A subsidiary of the 3M Company has showcased a prototype 84-inch projected capacitive (PCAP) touchscreen display at the 2013 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas.
The working prototype multi-touch display, which measures 84-inches or 2.13 metres across the diagonal and covers the entire surface of a table, is one of a number of PCAP displays being exhibited by 3M Touch Systems at the CES.
Other large prototypes on display from the company include:
- A smaller 46-inch multi-touch table
- A 1×3 multi-panel 46-inch multi-touch display wall
- A 3×3 multi-panel 32-inch multi-touch display wall
- Two 32-inch interactive multi-touch retail product selectors.
However, in an unfortunate piece of news for tablet and smartphone enthusiasts, the new displays are currently prototypes. Nonetheless, they offer a tantalising glimpse of where consumer electronics devices could be headed in the near future.
