Nicole Eckels moved from New York to Australia in 2005. One year later, she founded Glasshouse Candles after being dissatisfied with the range of fragrant candle products offered at the time.

“I knew there was something missing in this market and if I didn’t do it, somebody else was going to do it,” she said in 2015.

Glasshouse candle products are stocked in Peter Alexander and other retailers across the country. Eckels told SmartCompany the first five years of business boomed, with more than 50% in growth year-on-year.

The parent of Glasshouse Candles, the Sapphire Group, also holds another of Eckels’ businesses, Circa Home. Altogether, Sapphire Group employs more than 100 workers and has an estimated annual revenue of $50 million.
