I think you picked a bad example and then made generalisations based on that example.
In a survey that I read recently (can’t remember where) the single most desirable characteristic of a CEO was ‘vision’, which I agree is a vital attribute of a CEO. Clearly a track record of success is another vital factor (being able to implement the vision), therefore, I cannot see how one could one recommend the appointment of any of the candidates. The entrepreneur would be advised to look harder.
On the subject of MBA’s – you get good and bad like any other qualification. Some MBA’s might not have vision as the qualification does not guarantee that attribute, other managers without a MBA might well have vision. In my humble opinion, selection of a CEO should be rigorous and not be too time restricted.
