Are you dreaming of the day your business finally gets access to faster internet speeds? You can now find out how far off the national broadband network is, thanks to a new search tool.
NBN Co released a search function on Monday that allows any Australian homeowner or business to check when the national broadband network is expected to be available at their address.
Once an address has been searched, users can also find out whether work on the NBN has started and what kind of technology is planned for that area.
A business can also register for updates on the rollout, based on its address.
“We have moved away from telling people when we’ll be building in their neighbourhood to when they can contact their retailer to buy a service,” nbn chief customer officer John Simon said in a statement.
“The change means we can better meet the interests of our retail customers as well as the Australian homes and businesses which will benefit from fast broadband services powered by the nbn network.”
Around 60,000 new homes and businesses are getting access to the broadband network each week, according to Simon.
Given the intense interest in the rollout, it’s hoped individuals and businesses will be able to get a clearer picture of when they can expect a connection at their addresses, said Simon.
However, those wanting a specific date and time for connection might be disappointed; some addresses SmartCompany searched for came back with a six-month window for access to be installed, as far away as mid-2019.
Each search result also comes with the following disclaimer: “This date is an estimate and could change. This technology is based on nbn’s current deployment plans and is subject to change.”
