SMEs will soon be seeing a new style of banknote coming through their tills, with the Reserve Bank of Australia unveiling the new design for the $10 note today.
The design is similar to the new five dollar note revealed last September. It features a revamped design, a translucent strip down the middle, and enhanced security features to reduce risk of counterfeiting. The note also features tactile raised marks to aid vision-impaired Australians.
“The $10 banknote celebrates two famous Australian writers, Dame Mary Gilmore and AB ‘Banjo’ Paterson. Their work is recognised in several design elements on the banknote, including images of a pen nib in two of the clear windows and excerpts of their poetry in microprint,” RBA governor Phillip Lowe said in a statement.
The new notes won’t enter circulation until September, and businesses are advised they can continue to accept notes with the previous design, which remain legal tender.
The RBA will be updating all Australian bank notes to include enhanced security features and design updates over the coming years.
The new $10 note design also features images of native Australian flora and fauna, including Bramble Wattle and the Sulphur-crested Cockatoo.
