Tradie’s crack? OK, as long as you’re qualified

We’ve all seen it – the “plumber’s butt”, “builder’s bum” or otherwise known as the “tradesman’s crack”. But according to research compiled by ServiceSeeking.com.au, householders aren’t all that concerned about the appearance of backside cleavage when a tradesman turns up for a job.

Only 6.7% of respondents to a survey indicated they were concerned about a tradesman having good personal presentation when working on a job.

But the research also shows 29.2% of people are concerned about the tradesman having appropriate qualifications, while 25.3% deemed punctuality the most important factor.

ServiceSeeking.com.au founder Jeremy Levitt says he was surprised personal presentation didn’t factor in as many concerns.

“Our research shows that turning up on time was nearly four times more important than appearance. And what’s more, being qualified to do the job was the most critical factor. Obviously, plenty of households have a story involving an unqualified tradie botching a job, but fewer showed concern that tradies might drop the ball on appearance,” Levitt says.

“Perhaps exposing the ‘coin slot’ is no bar to getting paid?”
