Business travellers have a reprieve. Industrial action planned today by aircraft engineers at Qantas has been deferred until Friday.
About 1500 engineers had planned to begin overtime bans today as they fight for a 5% a year pay increase. Qantas is offering an annual increase of 3%. Qantas says parties had agreed to keep negotiating, so the industrial action has been deferred.
Meanwhile Qantas gave some travellers a shock on Monday. A jumbo jet en route from London with 344 passengers on board lost electrical power and relied on a back-up system to land. The failure could have been a disaster if the plane was further out to sea, as the back-up batteries only provide power for up to an hour.
