It seems that the evolution of wine delivery did not stop with screw tops. Wine is no longer the domain of the elite, but has gone mainstream, due to winery tours, festivals and popular films like Sideways.
Nonetheless the range and subtleties of wine flavours can still intimidate all but the most dedicated connoisseurs.
But picking the right wine may now be simpler with the release of patented, flat glass tubes with screw tops carefully engineered to protect flavour.
French company WineSide is adapting an idea from that other Gallic consumer bedrock – cosmetics.
Trend watcher Springwise says that a collection of wines in the little bottles will be available exclusively at Paris store Colette this month. The varieties include: sauterne and muscat in 60ml tubes, and brands Pomerol, Chateau Neuf du Pape and other classic labels in 60ml or 100ml sizes.
The innovative idea will no doubt encourage other “tryvertising” opportunities.
Though the WineSide website is still under construction, readers at Springwise have already argued for larger samples.
