Nokia unveils new flagship smartphone

Following Nokia’s release of a smartphone dubbed the “iPhone killer”, the Finnish group is set to release a new device next year at the high end of the market.

Nokia, the world’s largest mobile phone producer, will release the N97 in 2009 – boasting a 3.5 inch touch screen and a slide-out keyboard – and it will have 50% greater resolution than the iPhone.

The phone will also contain a camera with 5 megapixel resolution – larger than most other mobile phones, and on par with some digital cameras.

The group announced plans for the phone at the Nokia conference in Spain. The device will cost about $US700, and will run with the Nokia-standard Symbian software.
