British-based not-for-profit business Global Ethics will launch its ethical water brand, One Water, in Australia next month.
Global Ethics sells branded water and condoms. Like any other business, it aims to make a profit, but the difference is in what it does with that profit – namely, donate in full to the charitable One Foundation.
The One Foundation uses the money it receives to fund clean water projects in Africa, donating £70,000 in the year after it was founded in 2005 and with plans for £200,000 this year.
Currently, the foundation is supporting the installation in African villages of playpumps – a pump that is powered by a kind of spinning wheel on top. Installed near schools, kids have fun whizzing round on the wheel, and at the same time power the pump. One Foundation says it is currently funding the installation of one pump every three days.
