Following Apple’s applications success, BlackBerry developer Research in Motion will be opening an application store similar to the iPhone and iPod Touch App Store.

At the BlackBerry Developer Conference in California, the group announced it would launch the storefront around March 2009.

Developers will sell applications at prices they choose, and retain 80% of sales revenue. A deal with payment service PayPal is also rumoured.

“The new BlackBerry application storefront and BlackBerry application centers will further support the growing BlackBerry ecosystem and help bridge consumers with developers and carriers as more and more innovative and interesting applications arrive,” Mike Lazaridis, RIM president and co-CEO tells itwire.com.
