The level of apparent per person consumption of alcohol in Australia has plateaued over the past three years to June 2007, but drink choices have changed, according to figures from the Australian Bureau of Statistics.
Among the trends;
- Sharp falls in the availability of light and mid-strength beer.
- Steady levels of heavy beer (defined as greater than 3.5% alcohol content).
- Slight fall in wine and spirit availability (doesn’t include ready-to-drink spirits – RTDs).
- Fast rising availability of RTDs.
