Fashion chain Satch in administration as retail turmoil continues

Premium local fashion house Satch has collapsed but is continuing to trade, adding to a string of collapses among rag traders in recent months.

Satch, which sells women’s and men’s clothing and accessories, has 14 boutiques across Sydney, Melbourne and Perth. Its administrators are seeking immediate expressions of interest.

Founded in Melbourne in 1996, the collapse is also a blow to the local manufacturing sector, because Satch is one of the few Australian clothing groups to still manufacture in Australia.

Satch’s collapse follows a dire few months for rag traders, with Bettina Liano, Belinda International, Brown Sugar, Ed Hardy and Colorado appointing administrators throughout the year.

Satch says its products “fuse timeless style and functionality”.

“Beautiful fabrics, carefully crafted Australian-made suiting and with designs that interpret a European influence are all created to suit the savvy Australian consumer,” it says.

Stephen Dixon and Laurie Fitzgerald of BDO Business Recovery & Insolvency were appointed as administrators of the company last week. BDO said this morning a creditors’ meeting is scheduled for September 13 and urged potential creditors to contact it regarding a claim.

Satch was contacted for comment this morning, but it did not respond before publication.
